What is HHC?

As you probably well know, at Embrace CBD we do NOT just jump on the bandwagon of new hemp cannabinoids. We take our time, we do research and development, we study and learn for months and months before allowing any products to hit our shelves.

As of late there have been many new hemp-derived cannabinoids introduced to the market that have garnered attention. We tend to overlook most of it, as most of it is nothing but hype and nonsense. However in the case of HHC, our owner Nick was very excited about the possibility of being able to develop a product using HHC.

So, what is HHC anyway?

Hydroxyhexahydrocannabinol, or HHC, is a hydrogenated form of THC.

This is a similar process used to turn vegetable oil into margarine using a process called hydrogenation (adding hydrogen atoms to the chemical structure to stabilize it).

HHC occurs naturally in hemp but only in trace concentrations. To obtain a usable amount, a sophisticated process is performed to saturate THC with hydrogen atoms.

This breaks THC’s double bond chemical structure and replaces it with hydrogen, yet the cannabinoid’s effects and potency remain essentially unchanged. There are at least ten isomers of this hydrogenated cannabinoid currently known.

This seemingly minor alteration increases THC’s binding affinity for the CB1 and CB2 endocannabinoid receptors, as well as the TRP pain receptors.

What’s more, this change in THC’s molecular structure makes it a lot more stable since, in its natural form, THC is highly susceptible to oxidation and degradation.

In short, HHC acts very similarly to traditional ▲9 THC while offering many of the same therapeutic benefits typically associated with ▲9 THC.
